The long-awaited 2018 Kia Sportage has been spotted testing in South Korea and in Germany. Many are wondering how this compact crossover SUV will measure up against earlier models as well as KIA’s European competitors. Full information has not yet been released for all features of the 2018 Kia Sportage. Most of the known information on this car has been gathered from spy photos, but Kia has released some information. What information we do know makes this model look promising.
WHAT WE KNOW SO FAR
The Kia Sportage is currently in its fourth generation. Kia’s sales have fallen below expectation in the United States while remaining wildly popular in South Korea. This means we can expect to see quite a few new upgrades introduced into the 2018 Sportage to give the car some star power. The 2017 model included quite a few luxury upgrades and we can expect more of the same in the 2018 model.
2018 Kia Sportage – Exterior and Interior
The new model is obviously recognizable as a Sportage. However, the exterior update does give it a new look. The 2018 Sportage has a more masculine, yet less streamlined appearance from its older models. Some have gone so far as to say the car looks unusual or quirky. A prominent side spoiler does add a bit of elegance to the crossover. The roomy hatchback trunk offers plenty of space. Large fog lights, wraparound headlights, and a prominent front tiger grill keep the 2018 mode recognizable as the Sportage model.
Unfortunately, not much is known about the car’s interior at this time. It has been confirmed that this model will include an upgraded touchscreen display that is compatible with both Apple and Android devices. Sportage models have boasted a roomy cabin in the past, and there’s no reason to expect anything less in the 2018 Kia Sportage. Standard equipment may also include a steering wheel telescope, alloy wheels, and keyless entry. Improved safety features are also expected.
2018 Kia Sportage – Drivetrain Configuration
The Kia Sportage 2018 is expected to have a four-cylinder engine available in several models. The LX, EX, and SX Turbo models will all be released later this year. The LX and EX models have 2.4-liter with 181 hp and 175 pound-feet of torque. The 2.0-liter SX Turbo boasts 240 hp and 260 pound-feet of torque. Expect a brand new design for the powertrains, as Kia has scrapped an attempt at redesigning them and have started from the bottom up. Fuel efficiency is anticipated to be similar to the 2017 model which ranges between 26 and 30 highway mpg. A 6-speed automatic transmission will come standard with an option for a 7-speed double clutch transmission available. Top speed and 0 – 60 mph information are not available at this time.
2018 Kia Sportage – Release Date and Price
Expect the 2018 Kia Sportage to be released in the third quarter of 2017.
Base pricing is expected as follows:
LX – $24,500 – EX – $27,000
SX Turbo – $34,000
Front-wheel drive will be standard with an all-wheel-drive option priced around $1,500.
